Food industry leaders gathered for the Wall Street Journal’s Global Food Forum to discuss shifting consumer taste, new technology and global trade disputes. Among them were Mondelez CEO, Viktor van de Put who believes in the growing market for healthier snacks. He noted that the four to five percent annual growth of indulgent snacks pales in comparison to its healthier counterpart of six to seven percent.
“Globally, consumers are snacking more, creating opportunities for Mondelez International,” said Van de Put. “Today, people are eating 2.5 snacks each day, up from two a day just a few years ago. Busier lifestyles are supporting the trend.”
The CEO also rallies against distinguishing consumer trends from consumer behaviour. He emphasises that consumers that want healthier products still end up buying indulgent snacks. “There’s a difference between what people say and what they do,” van de Put said.
