Nestlé China is planning to expand its use of blockchain technology to achieve “full supply-chain transparency.”
At present, the supply-chain of 50 key products is currently fully traceable within China, with 65% of those being traceable outside of China. The food giant plans to expand this number by 15-18%. In an interview with Food Navigator Asia, head of Nestlé China’s supply chain Tony Domingo said the brand is aiming for “a broader level [of] visibility on where our products have been and where they are going.”
Once implemented the technology, which consists of blockchain systems as well as internal mechanisms designed and custom-made for Nestlé, will allow consumers to scan a QR code and find out exactly where a particular product has been, and when.
