Plant-based meat-substitute manufacturer has launched a “meatier” version of its Beyond Burger in the US.
The new pattie is made with a blend of pea, mung bean, and rice proteins. It features beetroot to give it a red hue and a blend of coconut oil and cocoa butter to provide fatty marbling designed to melt and tenderise like real beef.
Each of the new 4oz burgers contains 20g of plant-based protein, and features a simplified ingredients list. The flavour and aroma profile is said to be more natural.
Ethan Brown, the founder and CEO of Beyond Meat, said the launch is the next step in their attempt to close the gap between animal proteins and their plant-based alternatives. “The new Beyond Burger is the next step in our journey toward building meat directly from plants that delivers a consumer experience indistinguishable from its animal protein equivalent.”
The new pattie has started shipping to US retailers. The announcement comes a month after Beyond Meat published plans to start manufacturing in the Netherlands as well as the US.
