New Zealand avocado season has officially begun in Thailand, with Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters opening a launch event in Bangkok to celebrate the growing popularity of avocados. The event was hosted by New Zealand avocado ambassador Patcharasri Benjamas and catered by Thai celebrity chef Ian Kittichai at his Cuisine Concept kitchen.
“Thailand is a leading market for New Zealand avocado consumption growth in Asia. We have seen a growing interest from Thai consumers seeking premium imported produce from New Zealand, and New Zealand avocados are benefitting from a healthy diet and lifestyle trend,” said New Zealand Trade Commissioner Ryan Freer.
New Zealand avocados have unique nutrient qualities, including double the vitamin B6 and 20 percent more folate than those grown elsewhere in the world.
In the past five years, avocado export to Thailand has grown from 3,000 trays to 150,000. New Zealand avocado industry standards mean our produce is considered consistently high quality, sustainable, and safe for consumption. This means they’re in demand by several global export markets.
