Plant-based options on the rise in UAE

Plant-based meat alternatives like tofu, seitan, and tempeh are becoming increasingly popular in the United Arab Emirates, according to the FMCG importer Truebell.

The vegan foodstuffs are being served alongside other traditional festive food such as dates, grains, pulses, and nuts for the Eid Al Fitr festive season.

“Products such as dates, grains, pulses, nuts and plant-based meat replacements including seitan, tempeh, and tofu – which will be commonly used for dishes such as hummus, al hares, ouzi, ferni, aishu laham and fouga over the Eid – are gaining traction across the region,” said Jitendra Gandhi, Truebell’s director. “Over the next 12 months we will be looking to add brands that fit into these categories to our ever-expanding portfolio.”
