Sales of juice and water in plastic bottles and plastic-wrapped produce are down across the UK. Research into the matter showed more than half of small retailers saw sales of the products fall in the last six months. Further, research demonstrated the growing awareness among consumers of the damage plastic waste causes the environment. Increasingly, customers are requesting more products without plastic packaging to be stocked in supermarkets.
“Our study shows how changing consumer behaviour is starting to have an impact on the UK’s small retailers. Public awareness has increased around the issue, and pressure to reduce or eliminate plastics from products and packaging has grown significantly,” said Guy Moreve, CMO Paymentsense.
