Ultimate Baker has launched a new xylitol sugar substitute marketed specifically towards diabetic consumers. The naturally-coloured alternative is made with natural ingredients sourced from fruits and vegetables. The product is claimed to mimic the natural sweetness of sugar perfectly while containing 40 percent fewer calories.
In comparison to the 60 to 70 rating held by regular sugar, xylitol has a glycaemia index rating of 7 meaning xylitol will not cause a spike in insulin or blood sugar. With the number of people with diabetes on the rise, Ultimate Baker said development of this product was crucial to combat this issue and provide safe alternatives for those with diabetes.
“Our goal is to create high-quality products that are both visually appealing while free of the harmful synthetics and preservatives which are dominant across the baking industry. Xylitol is a product we’re just as proud to serve our families as we would all of our customers,” said Sue-Ellen Cutler, vice president of new product development, Ultimate Baker.
