Sir Ken Morrison, businessman and son of Morrisons’ founder, has died in the UK aged 85 after a short illness.
Morrison took his father’s small grocery chain and turned it into one of the UK’s biggest retailers. The real turning point came in 2004 when Morrison bought the rival Safeway chain. Up to that point, Morrisons had enjoyed nearly four decades of growth since 1967. He retired in 2008, having opened 375 stores that served more than 9 million customers a week.
