Following its announcement of joining The Sustainable Coffee Challenge in 2017, Walmart has released a corporate blog post announcing that they have met their goal one year early.
Starting in September, all coffee sourced for the grocery chain’s U.S. private label brands are now certified sustainable via third-party groups Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance Certified, or UTZ. The discount giant was the first major North American retailer to join Conservation International’s Sustainable Coffee Challenge.
Walmart also reveals its efforts in increasing traceability and transparency by working with suppliers such as Westrock Coffee. This partnership offers visibility into every element in the supply chain, all the way back to the coffee farmers at origin.
