Hop Federation Brewery is a small craft brewery located in the heart of hop country. Established in September 2013 the business is celebrating their fifth birthday this year and what better way to celebrate this milestone than to take out the Champion Lager category in the 2018 New World Beer & Cider Awards.
Hop Federation’s beers have won several awards over the years but to win this award for bottled beer is just something else. There were over 50 entries in the lager category and they were the only brewery to receive the converted Gold award and ultimate Champion Lager.
Located in Riwaka, near Motueka in the top of the South Island Hop Federation is well known for using local hops in its beers.
“We’re a relatively young brewery so we’re absolutely stoked we’ve won against some of the established brewers. We use local Motueka and Nelson Sauvin hops in our Lager so the beer really does celebrate the region we live and work in,” said Simon Nicholas head brewer and owner.
The Hop Federation core range is available in 500ml bottles and 330ml 4packs and available through Quench Collective.

Fortune favours the bold. The meek might inherit the Earth, but they don’t reach the summit, blaze new trails, sail over the horizon, take their chances and play their hand.
Fortune Favours is crewed by beer lovers who quit their day jobs, restored a heritage building and built their own brewpub in central Wellington’s Leeds Street precinct. They love beer and want to share that love with consumers. Fortune Favours beers are fresh, fun and innovative.

According to brewer and beer engineer Joe Latimer, “The Ace Smokey Porter is bold and multi-layered, capturing the drinker’s attention and challenging them to savour the flavour for a while. Unfiltered and naturally conditioned, Ace encapsulates intense malt flavours sealing in the Manuka-smoked malt’s distinctive nose. Intense rich nutty, chocolate and expresso aromas-abound and on the palate this brew is velvet smooth, with a lush creamy mouthfeel and subtle earthy floral hop finish”.

We have brewed the XPA for a few years now – it is hugely popular.
An XPA could be described as halfway between an IPA and a Pilsner. With a pale profile, the expectations might be that of the taste of a light lager but, their XPA actually has a really punchy IPA hop profile and a super crisp finish. They describe it as a lively, crisp and extremely fresh tasting brew. Perfect for anyone looking to try an approachable new beer style.
Sawmill is independent, resourceful and real. Their beer is just the beginning of a bigger story of how a brewery can have a positive impact on its community and its environment. The brewery was established in 2004 on the site of a former timber mill and is now located in a paddock just out of Matakana.
Zeffer is proud to be New Zealand’s leading cider brand and largest independent dedicated cider producer. Making premium craft cider with an Antipodean twist – they’ve collected a few awards along the way to vouch for their excellence, including their recent win at the New World Beer and Cider Awards.
The small team moved their cidery from Matakana to sunny Hawke’s Bay last year where they not only have a supply of world-class apples but have also been able to increase production to keep up with demand. What sets Zeffer apart is their commitment to producing all-natural ciders from freshly crushed apples and no added cane sugar (except for a minimal amount in their famous Apple Crumble). As a result, their ciders are drier in style, not overly sweet and feature interesting New Zealand ingredients like kawakawa, hops and cinnamon.
The range is available in cans, 500ml bottles and 330ml 4packs and is available through Quench Collective. Freephone 0800 946 326 or email email@example.com for more information.
