Started approximately two years ago by sisters Melissa Sattler and Anna Keown, Get Real Food is a company that likes to take Kiwi favourites and turn them into healthier options. The sisters spoke with the team about their new soon-to-be available gluten free Smugglers product.
What is your company background, how did you start the business?
"We are sisters from a food loving family and have previously enjoyed being in business together. Both busy mums to a ‘fussy child’ and disappointed by the lack of healthy convenient options available in New Zealand, we got talking and dreaming of what we could do to change this. Our brother came up with the name Get Real Food and after months of cooking and testing on our friends and family, Smugglers were launched."
What are the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?
"We like to take Kiwi favourites and make them a healthier option by smuggling in loads of goodness. Our current range consists of Smugglers (Beef and Chicken nuggets with hidden veggies) and our refined sugar and preservative free sauces (Tomato and BBQ). We take great care in selecting as many real and healthy ingredients as possible from local and free range suppliers making it a healthier option to what is currently readily available in New Zealand."
Has there been any recent company news?
"Our new and improved Smugglers were launched in May. A change of manufacturer and more modern machinery has enabled us to now make our products how we had originally designed them. We have loads of exciting ideas and are working on expanding our range. A gluten free version of our Smugglers will soon be available."
What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?
"We would love to see Get Real Food available to all of New Zealand and then perhaps we will look at exporting."
Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability? If so, where would you like to see the product situated?
"We are now able to sell into all the major supermarkets, and our stockist list is growing rapidly. We hope it won’t be long before our products are available nationwide."
