KOKONATI

Pure Ceylon Kokonati has the widest range of organic coconut products under a single brand. Something for everyone, even those who can’t have dairy, gluten, soy or peanuts. All Kokonati products are single origin, single ingredient and packed at source for ultimate freshness. Raw virgin coconut oil, cooking and steam deodorised coconut oils, they do it all.

Organic Coconut sugar and nectar is made from a type of sweet syrup extracted from the sap of the inflorescence of the coconut palm. The sap is boiled down much like sugarcane juice to produce coconut sugar and coconut nectar or treacle. Coconut nectar is lighter in texture than Kithul treacle and has a natural sweet taste.

Organic Coconut flour is a byproduct of the organic virgin coconut oil production. It has an aromatic coconutty fragrance. A raw, pure flour that can be used to bake high quality, gluten free, low carbohydrate foods. Coconut flour is high in fibre, and low in carbohydrates. Low GI makes it a suitable option for those watching their weight as well as affected by diabetes.

Currently available at Farro Fresh, selected Fresh Choice stores, IEproduce, Naturally Organic, The Natural Health Co and Bin Inn stores countrywide, as well as most organic, natural health shops around NZ. For more information visit www.ceylonkokonati.co.nz.

COCAVO

Healthier cooking fats are seeing a huge surge in popularity, with coconut oil in particular experiencing a real renaissance over the last few years. Jam-packed with lauric acid – a nutrient associated with better cholesterol levels – it has become a staple in the kitchens of healthy eaters and fans of new flavours. Avocado, the king of superfoods, is also in hot demand for its oil. Rich in plant sterols and carotinoids, it has been linked to increases in metabolic and cellular health.

Considered functional foods, both extra virgin organic coconut and avocado oils are being recognised by the medical community as powerful tools against diseases related to the immune system. Several studies have looked into their effectiveness in this area, and more research is currently underway concerning their incredible nutritional value.

Combining the benefits of both these oils is Cocavo. Created in Whangarei, Cocavo has been developed by chefs and nutritionists to be a ‘world first’ combination of organic extra virgin coconut oil and extra virgin avocado oil. It’s not just great tasting oil: Cocavo is an ideal cross marketing product, appealing to both coconut oil and fresh avocado buyers, and is tipped to be the hottest new food item this decade.

“We were developing a new process to make superior quality coconut oil, and decided that we could also make a healthier option, and this is where Cocavo was created,” said general manager Neville Montefiore. “Cocavo will appeal to the health conscious who recognise the benefits of coconut and avocado oils. We see the range of flavours playing a big part in stimulating that creative chef we all have within.”

BLUE COCONUT

Sourced from the Pacific Islands then refined in New Zealand using natural clay filters, Blue Coconut oil is pure, fresh and clean tasting. Semi-solid at room temperature, unlike other hardened coconut fats and margarines it isn’t hydrogenated so contains no unhealthy trans-fats. It has very high smoke point of 232°C and can be used to sauté, pan-fry, deep fry or roast anything, and can be substituted for butter or margarine in most recipes. It’s both tasteless and odourless. Due to its remarkable anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, this coconut oil won’t go rancid or oxidise. Customers can check the batch number of their tub online to see which Pacific Island the oil has come from. The product has a growing fan base as understanding of the benefitsof coconut oil are appreciated. For cooking purposes, many prefer the refined version but there is an unrefined (virgin oil) with the coconutty taste available too. Blue Coconut is a ‘must have’ pantry item. Blue Coconut is not only a cooking ingredient – it’s also possible to lather it on your skin and hair as a moisturiser and you can add a teaspoon in your pet’s diet to benefit intestinal health and give it a glowing, healthy coat. For more information call 03 3488280 or email sales@bluecoconut.co.nz or visit www.bluecoconut.co.nz.
