UK | Sainsbury's has launched a new functional health range featuring various innovative and nutritious products designed to help customers make healthier choices.
Sainsbury’s has launched four raw pressed juices and two juice shots, sold as an individual serve or a larger dosing size. The supermarket found that 77 percent of its customers would like their diet to be healthier, with lack of inspiration and time cited as barriers to doing so.
A supermarket's own-brand first, Sainsbury’s raw pressed juices and juice shots feature hydrating watermelon juice instead of apple juice, which is traditionally found in juices. As watermelon juice is naturally low in sugar, the drinks are also up to 45 percent lower in sugar than many other standard juices on the market.
These juices have been cold pressed and high-pressure processed rather than pasteurised and heated like many other juices on the market, so in addition to being raw and lower in sugar, they retain more nutrients and have a fresher taste.
Customers can choose from four raw pressed juices: Collagen, Immunity, Daily Greens and Digest, an immunity shot, and collagen shots to support customers with their health journey.
With more customers actively managing their gut health, there has also been an apparent rise in demand for kefir, with a Sainsbury’s Yogurt Plain Kefir Drink launching from the 22nd of January as well as a Strawberry Kefir Drink, a plain kefir yogurt and a raspberry kefir yogurt following later this year.
In addition to the new kefir products launched, three new Sainsbury’s Protein Fat-Free Yogurts made without artificial ingredients have also been introduced.
Available in Cherry and Vanilla, Mango and Passionfruit, and Strawberry flavours, the yogurts have fewer ingredients than many other protein yogurts on the market. They are also naturally sweetened with real fruit, offering customers a satisfying snack with 15g of natural protein.
With over five billion live cultures from 14 different culture strains, the kefir drink is high in calcium, contributing to the normal function of digestive enzymes. At the same time, protein supports the growth and maintenance of muscle mass.
In the coming months, Sainsbury’s ‘Healthy Choice’ icon will eventually feature on over 1,300 existing products, including the new functional health range.
This easy-to-spot icon will help customers quickly identify healthier options across various categories, highlighting nutritional benefits like higher fibre or protein products, sources of Omega 3 or calcium, or count as one of your five a day.
“At Sainsbury’s, we're committed to making everyday healthy essentials affordable and accessible for all our customers and initiatives like Aldi Price Match, Nectar Pricing, and the introduction of our new Healthy Choice Icon are key to this mission,” said Nilani Sritharan, Head of Healthy and Sustainable Diets at Sainsbury’s.
“We know that customers' health needs and preferences vary so we're truly excited to be launching a range of functional juices, protein yogurts and kefir drinks to customers looking for high-protein snacks or simple ways to incorporate more fruits, vegetables and nutrients into their diet."
Products will launch in selected stores and online in January. Select products will also offer introductory offers.
