UK | Aldi landed an impressive four wins at the Retail Industry Awards 2024, following a ceremony at The Brewery, London.

The supermarket beat rivals Sainsbury’s, M&S, and Waitrose to be named ‘Drinks Retailer of the Year’ for the seventh consecutive year.

The Retail Industry Award’s judges, who are hand-picked for their experience, knowledge, and expertise, decide upon the award.

The panel was particularly impressed with the supermarket’s tailored range of beers, wines, and spirits, which continue to develop in both the value and premium ends of the market and are overseen by Aldi’s highly trained and knowledgeable buying teams.

One judge said that Aldi had stepped up in how it executed the category, including at the premium end. It has a strong team and has built great connections with its suppliers, particularly English producers.

Another added that Aldi has a clear strategic plan for developing the category and a stand-out offering in the off-licence category. Price, category developments, and shopper engagement underpin Aldi’s position as a drinks retail leader.

“These four wins are the cherry on the cake after another year of hard work from our team and it’s fantastic to have that recognised by the industry’s top experts,” said Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK.

“I’m incredibly proud of our buyers, suppliers, and everyone else involved who goes above and beyond to make sure our high quality, great value ranges are the best of the best for our customers.

Aldi was also awarded “Chilled Retailer of the Year” and “Fresh Flower Supermarket of the Year” and received the “Diversity, Equality & Inclusion” award for the second year running.
