A complaint against a 7-Eleven haka ad, allegedly depicting Maori as savages, has been dismissed by the Australian Advertising Standards Bureau. 7-Eleven emphasised that the ad was not meant to ‘ridicule or portray Maori people in a negative manner’, adding that the actor, of Maori descent, ‘willingly agreed to participate.’
Despite complaints of ‘racism’ and ‘offensive and unethical’ representation of Maori people, no breach was found.
