GUINNESS FACTORY OPENS

Beverage company Diageo has opened its first brewing Guinness brewing factory in the US in over 60 years. The facility, constructed in Maryland, follows a $90 million investment made by the company into the US.

Located in Baltimore the facility has a 100-hectolitre brewhouse and a ten-barrel brewhouse. The 100-hectolitre brewhouse will be used for producing Guinness blonde while the 10-barrel brewhouse will facilitate experimental small-batch beverages. The factory will also house a visitor centre holding tasting and visitor tours as well as a restaurant and packaging and warehousing areas.

“This brewery has long been a dream for Guinness, and an incredible amount of hard work has gone into getting these doors open.” Said Diageo global chief sales officer Tom Day.

While the majority of beers produced in the facility will only be available at the factories Taproom, some are set to be distributed nationwide.
