UK | KitKat, the renowned British chocolate brand, has unveiled its latest addition – KitKat 70 percent Dark. Available exclusively in Sainsbury's stores nationwide, this limited-edition treat combines KitKat's signature crispy wafer with velvety dark chocolate, offering a unique indulgence for chocolate enthusiasts.
In a groundbreaking move for KitKat and Nestlé Confectionery in the UK and Ireland, the dark chocolate bar is crafted using cocoa mass-sourced from families participating in Nestlé's cocoa income accelerator programme. This marks a significant step in the Nestlé Cocoa Plan's ongoing efforts since 2009, with the income accelerator programme focusing on enhancing the well-being of cocoa-farming families and communities.
Beyond the economic impact, the programme strives to promote regenerative agriculture practices, safeguard natural resources, empower women as catalysts for positive change, boost school enrolment, and aid farming communities in diversifying their income streams.
Hannah Boyle, Brand Manager for KitKat at Nestlé UK and Ireland, expressed enthusiasm about the KitKat 70 percent Dark launch.
"Combining our signature crispy wafer and rich, smooth dark chocolate creates a truly indulgent experience that we're confident chocolate fans will love. What sets it apart is its delicious taste and ethical production, utilising cocoa mass from families engaged in the income accelerator programme," said Boyle.
She further highlighted the opportunity for consumers to delve into the sustainability efforts behind their treat by scanning the QR code on the pack. More details about the income accelerator programme and Nestlé's commitment to responsibly sourced cocoa can be explored on the Nestlé website.
KitKat 70 percent Dark, suitable for vegetarians and free from artificial colours, flavours, or preservatives, joins the esteemed lineup of KitKat variants, including the classic KitKat 4 Finger, KitKat Chunky, and KitKat 2 Finger.
