Scan-Free Self Service

scan free self service

UK | Tesco is testing an innovative technology at its Fulham Reach Express store that eliminates customers needing to scan items at self-service tills.

At the Tesco Fulham Reach Express, customers can approach the scan-free checkout, which automatically displays a list of the selected products. This eliminates the need to scan each item individually. Customers can review the list and pay normally without using the Tesco Grocery App.

This cutting-edge technology is currently exclusive to the GetGo store in Fulham. It is part of a range of checkout solutions aimed at enhancing the overall shopping experience for customers.

The GetGo stores offer various checkout options, including High Holborn and Chiswell St in London and Aston University in Birmingham. These include a mobile GetGo option where customers can pick items, scan the app, and exit, as well as traditional self-service or attended tills.

Customers utilising the checkout-free option at the GetGo stores receive a receipt for their purchases shortly after leaving the store. However, for those who prefer, there is always the option to pay with cash at an attended till in each GetGo store.

The new scan-free option at Fulham Reach provides an additional choice for customers looking to expedite their self-service checkout experience. To use this feature, customers must stand before the checkout, press 'Get Started,' review their items, and complete the payment with a card. Store colleagues are available to assist customers with any issues.

Sarah Quiggin, Head of Store Customer Experience at Tesco, emphasised the company's commitment to continually enhancing the shopping experience. The trial of scan-free checkouts in Fulham Reach aims to offer customers an alternative way to save time during the checkout process and reduce queues in the store. Tesco will closely monitor customer reactions to this potential new option of automatically presenting a shopping list.
