Supermarket’s Pop-Up Pub

As Australians count down to the festive break, ALDI is coming in hot with an early Christmas present for thirsty Sydneysiders, a new pop-up pub serving craft beers without the exxy price tags.

Born out of a first of its kind collab down under, ALDI Australia and their mates at BrewDog are coming together to open Special Brews by ALDI – the most affordable night out in Sydney this Christmas (something everyone can toast to). The Special Brews pop-up pub is a sneak peek at the limited Swedish beer, which will be on sale at ALDI stores from Wednesday, 20 December, until sold out.

Opening its doors at the iconic Hotel Sweeney's for one night only on Wednesday, 13 December, Special Brews by ALDI has all the character you'd expect from an urban pub set against the backdrop of the summery Sydney skyline. From custom merch to chippies to snack on, cold Froth Whitlams flying out the wazoo, and what's sure to be a top-shelf crowd, Special Brews by ALDI will have it all. And the best bit? ALDI's 'Good Different' prices, with a can of the brand new and exclusive ALD IPA priced at just AU$3.25.

Aussies frothing for an exclusive first taste of the new ALD IPA at the Special Brews by ALDI pop-up will have to be quick, though, as there are no bookings – meaning it is first come, first served on the night. Thirsty patrons can collect their punch card at the door and purchase up to three cans of ALD IPA, with ALDI and BrewDog slinging limited edition stubby holders and socks to commemorate this special occasion and hold future ALDI Tin Diesels.

Paul Handley, ALDI Beer Expert and Buying Director, said Special Brews by ALDI and the new, exclusive ALD IPA with BrewDog is a first for ALDI Australia, expanding its award-winning range of beers and showing Aussies that they can enjoy a craft experience without the hefty prices.

"We are excited to welcome patrons to this new experience and for Aussies to crack open the new ALD IPA," said Handley.

"Rest assured, if you have left your Christmas celebration plans to the last minute, Special Brews by ALDI is here to save the day – maybe even the entire silly season.”

ALDI is delivering a night out in Sydney for under a tenner this holiday season.

“We want to help Aussies come together and celebrate big – so don't be a Scrooge. Scream your mates or colleagues a round of ALD IPA this Christmas and still have enough left in the wallet for the taxi home after."

A crisp Brew Jackman is hardly complete without a salty, savoury snack. Special Brews will also serve ALDI's Blackstone "Black Edition" deli-style chips with the ALD IPA. In true craft pub fashion, these aren't just your average chippies. Crafted from the best Aussie-grown potatoes, patrons will have two NEW premium flavours to choose from: Smoky Chorizo, which is packed with the delicate spiciness of smoked paprika combined with pork, garlic and salt, or Truffle & Olive Oil, which uses luxurious truffles to deliver an earthy and pungent taste sensation, paired with the fresh notes of green olives. Whichever you choose, you'll reach into the far corner of the packet for the last specks of these goodies. Can't make it to the pub? The new Blackstone "Black Edition" deli-style chips are available in ALDI stores nationwide for a limited time only, for $3.49.

“Produced in our state-of-the-art brewery in sunny Brisbane, our new ALD IPA is packed with all the hops and flavours you dream of in a quintessential summertime beer,” Ed Bott, BrewDog Australia CEO.

“It may boast a price tag fitting for ALDI, but it is the same high quality that BrewDog fans are so used to enjoying across our entire range, so we hope that Aussies enjoy picking up a case of ALD IPA in their weekly shop and cracking open a cold one this summer. And as for Special Brews by ALDI, what more is there to say, except see you at the pub."
