UK BANS PLASTIC STRAWS, STIRRERS AND COTTON BUDS

The UK government has announced that it will ban the sale and use of all plastic straws, stirrers and plastic cotton buds as of April next year. While restaurants, pubs and bars will not be allowed to display or automatically hand out straws, they will be allowed to provide them on request. Registered Pharmacies will also be able to sell plastic straws to consumers for medical reasons.

The UK government’s Environmental secretary Michael Gove said that urgent action needed to be taken to protect the environment.
