USA | Sam’s Club is one of the first retailers to equip frontline managers with enterprise-grade AI tools.
By eliminating millions of repetitive tasks and opening new training opportunities, AI has transformed work across clubs while preparing associates for future-ready careers, enabling faster, real-time decision-making on the club floor and allowing managers to focus more on members and associates.
This move changes how decisions are made, moving insights out of the back office and bringing them to the club floor, where associates and members connect every day.
One club manager told Sam's Club that what used to take hours digging through P&Ls now takes minutes. Another approach has been to use AI to flag local products and connect those businesses directly with our merchants.
A third shared how AI spotted a pattern in seasonal sales, helping them adjust staffing and promotions before the rush hit. These stories have become common across the clubs, and they all share one commonality: "AI is taking work off our managers’ plates so they can place more of their focus on our members and associates."
The impact also extended beyond managers. Across the clubs, AI has helped eliminate millions of repetitive tasks, freeing associates to spend more time on what matters most.
That shift created space for empathy, creativity and problem-solving, the things that make retail deeply human.
Starting next year, associates will have the opportunity to take part in new AI training through OpenAI Certifications, helping them build skills that support their growth in a future where technology is designed to empower people.
By being one of the first to bring AI to the frontline, Sam's Club has proven that the future of retail isn’t just about efficiency. It’s about creating better jobs, stronger communities and more personal member experiences.
