Tesco’s Potato Burger Buns

Tesco's Potato Burger Buns

UK | Tesco has given summer BBQs a major upgrade with the launch of its new Potato Burger Rolls; the first supermarket-owned buns in the UK made using real mashed potato rather than potato flakes.

Soft, squishy and full of flavour, the buns are inspired by the potato rolls used in cult London burger spots like Shake Shack and Supernova, helping customers recreate a restaurant‑quality burger at home.

The natural starches in the mashed potato help the buns stay light, fluffy and moist, while still being sturdy enough to hold juicy patties, sauces and toppings without falling apart. They offer a delicious upgrade to a sweet brioche or a plain white bun, giving home cooks a new way to elevate their favourite burgers.

What Makes Potato Buns Different

  • Fluffy texture: Mashed potato creates a pillowy, soft crumb that stays fresher for longer.
  • Balanced flavour: A gentle, natural sweetness without the richness of brioche.
  • Better burger support: Holds up to juicy fillings without going soggy.

"We’ve seen a huge rise in people making burgers at home thanks to TikTok and social media, where everyone wants to replicate the perfect, melt-in-the-mouth, restaurant‑style burger," said Jack Alderson, Tesco Bakery Product Development Manager.

"To serve, I recommend brushing the top and bottom with a little butter, add in your burger and fillings, and then wrap it in some foil and gently squish it all together. The foil traps the steam with the heat helping to soften the bun, combining all the delicious flavours."

Tesco Finest Potato Rolls are one of 22 new Finest bakery products launching in stores this week. Other newness includes White Chocolate and Blueberry Scones, an Ancient Grain Bloomer, Hot Honey Sub Rolls and Chilli Pinsa.

The full range is in store and available online now.
