The supermarket wars in Australia are escalating with Aldi announcing last month it was going to add 80 new stores to its network in 2016, its biggest store rollout since opening back in 2001.
Forty of these stores will be across the eastern seaboard. With those additions, Aldi says Australia will become one of its most important markets outside its German home base.
