AA Insurance has reported that car thefts have increased nationally by 36.5 percent and urges car owners to be vigilant. Auckland specifically has seen a rise of 43 percent.
AA recommends utilising attended car parks and secure parking buildings - otherwise, parking close to the entrance or exit of a facility.
"With the number of ram raids increasing, particularly in Auckland, it’s important to know that vehicles targeted for this activity tend to be at the lower end of the value chain, more than five years old and often parked on the street," said Beau Paparoa, Head of Motor Claims at AA.
The insurance company noted the importance of parking security measures and asked Kiwis to be vigilant in locking doors.
