Christchurch’s Bargain Food Store

BargainMe, Christchurch’s first bargain food store, has only been open for seven months but has seen popularity explode as budget-conscious shoppers look to beat rising food costs. The store is located in Linwood and sells a wide range of short-dated or end-of-line products such as meat, frozen, dairy, canned and packaged goods.

“The cost of living is really high right now, and groceries at mainstream supermarkets are incredibly expensive. We offer great food at an affordable price and are getting fantastic feedback from our customers, who are able to put food on the table for their families without having to worry about the cost. You can see from the launch of Costco that New Zealanders are ready for alternatives to our traditional supermarkets, and we’re happy to be providing another great option,” said Shawn Thomas, BargainMe Owner.

BargainMe also helps avoid food wastage, with over five tonnes of food prevented from being dumped by giving products a second life.

“We’re giving these products a second life and helping people put food on the table at an affordable price. It’s a win, win.”

Pet food and ice cream are among the store's best sellers, as they tend to have much higher prices at mainstream supermarkets.
