Chupa Chups Pilots Paper Sticks In NZ

Chupa Chups Launches Pilot in New Zealand Switching from Plastic to Paper Sticks

Perfetti Van Melle, a leader in the confectionery industry, has taken a step forward in its global approach to more sustainable packaging by launching paper sticks for Chupa Chups Classic Lollipops in New Zealand.

This is the first step in a broader plan to roll out the paper stick across the full product range in select countries in the APAC region.

Reducing plastic weight, Perfetti Van Melle has aimed to reduce plastic waste and align with evolving consumer and trade expectations.

Based on the results of the New Zealand launch, the company remained dedicated to expanding the paper stick initiative to select countries in the APAC region.

With the introduction of paper sticks, Chupa Chups Classic Lollipops will see an approximate 60 percent reduction in plastic weight when considering the overall weight of the stick and bunch wrapper.

This transition has built on Perfetti Van Melle’s earlier move to paper sticks for Chupa Chups Gum Filled Lollipops in Australia and New Zealand.

“At Perfetti Van Melle, we are committed to finding innovative solutions that align our sustainability goals with consumer preferences,” said Amelia Goldsmith, Brand Manager for Chupa Chups Australia and New Zealand at Perfetti Van Melle.

“We’re switching to paper sticks for Chupa Chups Classic Lollipops to reduce plastic intensity, an important step in reducing plastic waste while maintaining the same great taste and quality that Chupa Chups fans love.”
