A collective employment agreement between First Union members and Countdown has been accepted. Workers will see a wage increase of 12 percent, new employees will start on the living wage, and improvements to sick/pandemic leave will be made.
The national agreement will cover Countdown’s 18,000 employees and was voted on by members in the last month. Countdown will provide some of the highest wages in the supermarket industry.
Around half of all Countdown staff are members of First Union.
