The most recent sustainability report from ecostore has provided insights into its ongoing efforts to conduct business without contributing to climate change.
The extensive report assesses eco store's influence across various areas, emphasising three main pillars: Our Work (Ā mātou mahi), Our World (Tō mātou ao), and Our Community (Tō mātou hapori).
Ecostore's growth is driven by innovation and underscores its continuous focus on producing less, not more. By prioritising the creation of highly concentrated, effective formulations, the company is reducing the volume of products needed to achieve the same level of effectiveness.
While accomplishments such as obtaining B Corp Certification, joining the ANZPAC Plastics Pact and expanding communities demonstrate success, ecostore also gauges success by reducing certain outputs. For instance, the company's various initiatives saved 140,480kg of plastic, roughly the weight of an average blue whale.
These initiatives included the Cleaner Concentrates, which saved over 185,500 spray bottles or 12,900kg of plastic, while Hair Care Bars helped save more than 14,700kg of plastic and 65,500L of water. This is equivalent to 322,600 350ml shampoo bottles that were not produced.
Ecostore also removed the recycled plastic scoop from its laundry powders, resulting in an annual saving of over 3,000kg of plastic.
Over 99,180kg of plastic, or the equivalent of 1,885,600 plastic bottles, was saved through Ecostore's 100-plus refill stations and bulk offerings.
"Over the past 30 years of operation, we have fostered relationships with our customers and supporters by developing highly effective products and being transparent and authentic in everything we do and accomplish,” said Romain Mereau, the Sustainability Reporting and B Corp Lead.
“This encompasses everything from the contents of our products to our production processes. We strongly believe in involving everyone in the journey, and this report is a means for us to collectively celebrate our achievements, recognise areas for improvement, and chart our course into the future."
Mereau acknowledged that ongoing innovation presented new challenges and the report spotlighted areas where ecostore was dedicated to making further advancements.
Despite holding Toitū net carbon zero certification for its business and factory, ecostore has remained resolute in its pursuit to reduce emissions further.
Pablo Kraus, the CEO, expressed his pride in the team and their daily efforts to offer consumers a safer choice that benefits them, their families, and the environment.
"We are clear about our objectives and are committed to conducting business without contributing to climate change. We are dedicated to continuously enhancing our product formulas to improve performance while upholding quality and safety at every stage,” said Kraus.
“Additionally, we will continue to explore methods to reduce plastic packaging through redesign and innovation, as preventing waste before it is even generated is a vital aspect of circularity."
