For more than a century, Cholmondeley Children's Centre has provided a safe and supportive environment for children when families need extra help.
Based in Governors Bay near Christchurch, its team has helped children feel welcomed, cared for and connected, often during challenging times for families.
To support Cholmondeley’s work, the Foodstuffs South Island Community Trust has made a NZD 20,000 grant and committed to making the funding an annual contribution. The ongoing support will help fund nutritious meals for children staying at Cholmondeley.
While food is an essential part of every stay, shared mealtimes also provide opportunities for children to build friendships, connect with others and experience a sense of belonging. By helping meet these everyday costs, more of the funds Cholmondeley raises can be directed towards the care and wellbeing of the children and families it supports.
Foodstuffs South Island Community Trust Chairperson, Lucy Boock, said the Trust was pleased to support the important work Cholmondeley does for children and families.
"Through our family-owned New World, PAK'nSAVE and Four Square stores, we're committed to supporting the communities we're part of,” said Boock.
“Cholmondeley provides vital support for children and families, and we're proud to recognise that work through this ongoing commitment."
The Foodstuffs South Island Community Trust is one way Foodstuffs South Island supports local communities. The Trust prioritises funding that increases community access to healthy food, reduces hardship for individuals and communities, and provides emergency relief for community organisations during crisis events.
Community organisations interested in applying for funding have been encouraged to speak with their local New World, PAK'nSAVE or Four Square sponsor store.
