Avondale’s local supermarket will be stepping into a fresh new era, with SuperValue Avondale reopening as FreshChoice Mini Avondale following a full store transformation.
Continuing under the local ownership of Ravinay Raniga, the new-look supermarket has been redesigned around how locals increasingly shop today: quick top-up trips, easy meal solutions, and everyday essentials close to home.
The refreshed store will offer fresh produce, ready-to-go meals and grocery staples, alongside hot food, a milkshake machine, an expanded chilled drinks range, and a faster, more convenient in-store layout designed to make everyday shopping easier.
Raniga said the new format reflected the evolving needs of the Avondale community.
“Avondale is a diverse, hardworking and fast-growing community with a strong local spirit. We wanted to create a modern supermarket that genuinely serves locals and their everyday needs,” he said.
“FreshChoice Mini Avondale is about making local shopping feel easy, friendly and close to home, with quality products, great value and a team customers know. While the store may have a new look, we want people to walk through the doors feeling comfortable, welcomed and like this is truly their local store.”
FreshChoice Executive General Manager Tim Cartwright added that the Mini format has been designed to reflect changing shopping habits, offering communities a more convenient supermarket experience tailored to local lifestyles.
“FreshChoice Mini gives communities a supermarket format that reflects how many New Zealanders increasingly shop today: locally, conveniently and more often,” said Cartwright.
“While the footprint may be smaller, customers can still expect the heart of FreshChoice, with fresh food, trusted value and a strong connection to the local neighbourhood. Having local owner-operators is a big part of that. It means stores can genuinely reflect the communities they serve and build strong relationships with local customers, suppliers and teams.”
FreshChoice Mini Avondale officially opens on Tuesday, the 9th of June at 9 am, welcoming the community with a celebratory cake, an official ribbon-cutting, and in-store tastings.
