FreshChoice has announced the opening of its brand new store in Tinwald, located at 124 McMurdo Street.
This state-of-the-art supermarket, owned and operated by Paul and Gaylene Thompson, who have been serving the community for 21 years, promises a significantly enhanced shopping experience for residents of Tinwald and Ashburton.
The new FreshChoice Tinwald replaced the former SuperValue store on Archibald Street and boasts a 30 percent larger trading space and more than 2500 new lines, a move driven by the need for a larger and modern facility with improved parking and accessibility.
The decision to invest in a new building was solidified by a loyal and growing customer base, many of whom discovered the store during the Covid-19 pandemic and appreciated its commitment to range and service.
“This new store is a dream come true, nine years in the making and three years to bring to reality,” said Paul Thompson, owner-operator of FreshChoice Tinwald.
“We started this journey with Gaylene’s parents and are incredibly proud to continue serving our community in this fantastic new space. Our customers' support made this possible, and we’re excited to offer them a truly elevated shopping experience.”
The over 4,000 residents of Tinwald and the wider 21,300 population of Ashburton can look forward to a range of innovative features designed for convenience and quality.
The new FreshChoice Tinwald will boast eco-friendly refrigeration with doors for all meat and produce, a thick shake machine, and an expanded selection in the Bakery, Ready to Eat, and Hot Food departments.
A significant increase in Grocery lines and a walk-in beer chiller with an increased range of chilled wines will further enhance the offering. The store is also actively seeking local suppliers not currently stocked in Ashburton, further diversifying its product range.
Community engagement remains a cornerstone of the store’s philosophy. Having long supported local organisations like Tinwald Rugby, Plains Rotary, Plains Railway & Museum, Women's Veteran Golf, the Community Hub, and local schools, the new FreshChoice Tinwald looks forward to continuing and expanding its involvement.
“We are thrilled to welcome FreshChoice Tinwald to our growing network. This new store represents our commitment to providing high-quality fresh food and a positive shopping experience for Kiwis," said Tim Cartwright, Executive General Manager of FreshChoice.
"The dedication of Gaylene and Paul Thompson and their team to their community is evident, and we are confident this new FreshChoice store will be a fantastic asset for the Tinwald and Ashburton community, especially catering to the significant elderly population in the area with its improved accessibility and wider range.”
The new FreshChoice Tinwald team is committed to delivering a positive customer experience, where shoppers are noticed, acknowledged, and excited about their visit. Many current customers have already expressed their anticipation and even offered to assist with the new store’s opening.
