Sumfood has launched a free app called FoodSpies that allows customers to find which supermarket offers the cheapest product prices. It was designed in response to increasing concerns over food price inconsistencies.
Crowd-sourced data is used to calculate the average price for a supermarket shop in the App. Customers can log on and find the average price, per person, for a shop in their region.

“Anecdotally, we know that where you live has an impact on what you pay at the supermarket – it’s time for some transparency,” said Dr Helen Darling, Sumfood Chief Executive.
She believes that Kiwis want to help each other to find the best place to shop and drive supermarkets towards fairer, transparent pricing.
The launch of this tool is one of the many ways Sumfood can help Kiwis with food-related issues.
