Lewis Road Creamery’s new Breakfast Drink label has mistakenly understated the sugar content in the nutritional information by including added sugars only, not the sugar that naturally occurs in milk (lactose). As a result, the total sugars in a 100ml serving are more than it first noted on the label. Based on tests of the sugar content in the chocolate flavour is 8.91g per 100ml (of which 5.98 grams is lactose, the naturally occurring sugar in milk). Lewis Road Creamery apologises for the error and has voluntarily removed the products from shelves in order for them to be re-labelled correctly. This was not a food safety issue, but a labelling error.
