ICE CREAM COMPANY FINED FOR UNSAFE FACTORY

Oob’s owners Robert and Shannon Auton have been fined $26,000 for building an unsafe ice cream factory. The Autons pleaded guilty to five charges of carrying out building work without consent.

The case dates back to 2011, when they started building a new facility on their Omaha property as part of Oob’s company expansion.

No resource consent or building consent had been applied for, and Auckland Council officers found the factory had no proper fire egress or signage.
