PUBLIC HELPED SOLVE KIDNAP AT MT. ROSKILL STORE

Two teenagers aged 13 and 15 have been arrested for kidnapping, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, wilful damage and assault with intent to rob, after they stole a car from outside a Mount Roskill supermarket while a three-year-old girl was still inside.
The incident, which happened at 7pm on Tuesday, was quickly resolved and the kid safely reunited with her family. Passersby who saw the carjacking were able to chase the stolen car, until it crashed within blocks of the supermarket. The two teens were eventually located by the police helicopter and taken into arrest.
“We are very grateful for everyone’s efforts. This was a terrifying ordeal for the family and they too have expressed their gratitude for the efforts of the public in helping reunite their daughter with them so quickly,” said Jill Rogers, Auckland City acting district commander. “This incident could have had a much more disastrous outcome if it hadn’t been for the quick thinking actions of the members of the public.”
The family, who is now being assisted by Victim Support, has described those 15 minutes following the incident as a ‘horrible moment’.
