A planned Countdown store in Nelson has encountered a fierce opposition by city councillors and staff, arguing that the outlet would bring ‘total chaos’ in the surrounding area, with negative effects on its transport network. Deputy Mayor Paul Matheson explained that the introduction of a supermarket on the proposed corner of Salisbury and Champion roads would make three roundabouts ‘completely redundant.’
Submissions will close on April 26.
