Over 100 members of the NZACS were present for its Annual Industry Awards night and PJ Scholarship Speech competition, held at the Hilton Auckland on Princes Wharf.
Fernand Dignadice from Frucor was runner-up, and Kathlyn Lee from BP was the scholarship competition winner. They both won a trip to Las Vegas to attend the NACS Industry Trade Show in October. The question for the competition was:
You have been given a project involving category, marketing, and operations. Your task is to take any existing category in convenience other than fuel or tobacco and re-invent or revolutionise it. Present your proposal summarising your plan. What is the big idea? What insights have led you to this? What is different? How will it look? How will you justify the return on the capital or expense required?
“Our annual awards were held later in the evening, with Ben Hurley as our guest MC. It’s been an extremely challenging couple of years for our suppliers and retailers, and our intention was to celebrate being back together, and recognise excellence within the industry. Ben managed to create a relaxed and humorous atmosphere. It was our largest turnout in years with almost 130 members, and was pleasing to see everyone enjoy the opportunity to network together,” said Dave Hooker, Executive Director NZACS.
