Wine drinkers are being encouraged to celebrate New Zealand’s second Bubbles Day this Friday.

“Kiwi sparkling wines offer fantastic value without compromising on quality,” said Caro Jensen, co-founder of Sip NZ. “New Zealand made bubbles are often half the price of their French siblings while still being made using the same traditional techniques and blends.”

Wine and lifestyle company Sip NZ teamed-up with leading wine producers around the country to showcase a selection of local sparkling wine styles in the lead up to #nzbubblesday. Classically Champagne is made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes, so it is no surprise that the majority of local sparkling wines come from Marlborough with less traditional interpretations and blends emerging from regions such as Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne.

“Sparkling wines offer a fun and easy way to celebrate and New Zealand has so many well-made Méthode Traditionelle wines to choose from, you can’t go wrong,” said Emily Camblin, co-founder of Sip NZ. “A bit lower in alcohol as well, it is a perfect way to have a glass, be mindful and delve into the different expressions of these grape varieties and regions.”

Participating wineries are Akarua, Giesen Wines, Haha Wine, Johanneshof, Leveret Estate, Matahiwi Estate, Mission Estate, Spade Oak and Spy Valley.
