In the past two months Kiwis have already consumed more than one million hot cross buns, a number expected to rise in the lead up to Easter. Meanwhile, Countdown’s 184 stores have been battling it out to claim the title of Countdown’s Hot Cross Bun of the Year. A panel of judges has tasted their way around the country rating buns on taste, texture, glaze, spice and position of the cross. Three North Island bakery’s placed in the top four spots, with Countdown Hobsonville winning top spot.
