ONE CARD TURNS TWO

Countdown’s Onecard loyalty programme is celebrating its two millionth registration, just two years after joining with AA Smartfuel to help save Kiwis thousands on fuel and food.

Countdown also recently moved its rewards vouchers online, reducing the need for millions of envelopes and paper vouchers that were sent out each year.  Customers can now redeem their rewards at the checkout, and for the first time rewards can be redeemed at self-checkout and via online shopping as well.

Sally Copland, Countdown’s General Manager Digital said it was a natural progression to digitalise Onecard rewards.

“We know that Onecard rewards are meaningful for our customers as we continue to see more and more people signing up to Onecard and thousands of Kiwis getting rewards everyday.  However today’s shopper wants transparency around where they’re at in earning rewards, and once they’ve got there, they want to be rewarded then and there to make a tangible difference to their shopping,” said Sally Copland.

“As an online shopper myself I know how frustrating I found it to earn my rewards and then have to go into a store to redeem them - it’s not how life works these days and moving rewards online is another way we can help make our customers lives more simple, and make shopping with us even more efficient.  More than 100,000 Kiwis shop with us online and it just makes sense to continue to innovate in this space.

“The added benefit is that we are also getting rid of the huge volumes of paper vouchers and envelopes sent out each year - Countdown is looking at how we can reduce unnecessary packaging and waste across our business, and the digital space is no exception, every little bit helps."

During the month of Onecard’s second birthday celebrations, customers who shop and swipe their Onecard will have several opportunities to win thousands of prizes including the chance to win fuel or food for a year and several trolley grabs.
