Reso has launched an AI-powered employment dispute tool designed to help New Zealand HR and management teams understand workplace disputes before deciding how to respond or escalate them.
The platform automates the assessment of complex workplace disputes and streamlines the resolution process. It provides legally grounded pathways, recommended next steps and ready-to-use communications covering personal grievances, disciplinary processes, restructuring and dismissal claims.
Reso was developed in response to an increase in employment disputes. Employment Relations Authority applications rose by 39 percent in the two years to 2024, reaching 2,745 formal filings.
The company said generic AI tools were also increasingly being used in employment disputes and, in some cases, creating further problems.
New Zealand courts have reported an increase in AI-generated errors in legal filings, including submissions citing cases that do not exist. This has prompted judicial warnings across tribunals and, in one case, from a Supreme Court panel. The panel cautioned that the misuse of AI in legal proceedings undermined confidence in the justice system.
Reso assesses each dispute against a ring-fenced library of New Zealand employment law, with citations checked against the original judgments.
Built for New Zealand employment law
Reso was co-founded by New Zealand litigator James Wollerman.
“The opportunity to resolve disputes at an early stage is often missed and can lead to significant time, cost, stress and poor outcomes,” said Wollerman, Director, Legal, Reso.
“I could see the potential for AI to give employers a clear, upfront view of their legal position, so they could manage disputes with confidence, but only if it was grounded in actual legislation and case law, not pattern-matching.
“That’s what we built Reso to do. Every dispute is assessed against New Zealand employment law, so employers get comprehensive reasoning, not plausible-sounding but baseless estimates.”
Employment is the first dispute module available on Reso’s platform. Modules covering construction and real estate disputes are expected to follow, with further categories planned.
Supporting complex workplaces
Reso has been developed for HR and management teams operating in complex or high-volume dispute environments.
These include the public sector, local councils, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, education, aged care and early childhood education. The platform is intended for workplaces where large or shift-based workforces, layered regulatory obligations and limited in-house HR capacity can make disputes more difficult to manage.
To mark the launch, the first 10 businesses to book a demonstration will be able to complete two Reso assessments at no cost and without a commitment.
Businesses can register their interest at getreso.co.nz.
