The New Supermarket In Town

Countdown

Countdown has introduced a new supermarket in Timaru North. Doors opened 9th of March (last Thursday), allowing Timaru residents to enjoy their grocery shop at the brand-new store, clad with the newest gadgets and technology.

The $25 million valued store, measuring 3,900 square metres, will provide the community with over 90 new jobs.

Director of Property at Countdown, Matt Grainger, claimed that the new store offers a fresh, modern shopping experience explicitly created in the best interest of its customers.

“From our stunning produce section to our food-to-go sections, our new store gives customers the best shopping environment possible – from start to finish,” revealed Grainger.

The opening of the Timaru North Countdown supermarket has kept sustainability at its forefront, with design features including electronic labels and transcritical refrigeration system and doors on milk and dairy fridges to help reduce energy use.

In addition to its in-store sustainability efforts, the supermarket is partnering with local food rescue organisations. The enterprise intends to rescue food that is no longer in a state to sell but still in a condition to eat. Products saved will then be redistributed through the local community to reduce unnecessary food waste.

The Mayor of Timaru, Nigel Bowen, stated the community appreciated the enterprise's effort to be a positive force within the community.

“We appreciate the commitment from Countdown to Timaru and the wider region. Investments like these are important for our local economy to keep growing. I am sure our community will enjoy the modern grocery shopping experience it offers,” said Bowen.

Countdown Timaru North is at 233 Evans Street and will be open 7 am – 9 pm, seven days a week.
