Upskills is proud to be making an impact, winning the Impact Category at the 2022 Diversity Awards. The organisation is changing lives through Project Ikuna, which provides Auckland's Pasifika workforce with financial and digital literacy tools.

The program is delivered in partnership with Tātaki Auckland Unlimited and features the Future Ready Money Confidence Course.

"We know that financial knowledge about concepts, such as compound interest, has the power to change lives. Often participants are unaware of how compound interest might work against them on a high-interest hire purchase situation. We discuss this and pull out the numeracy necessary to understand and empower people to make their own decisions about what is financially best for them and their families. And we do this in a Pacific context," said Tafā Iakopo, Programme Manager at Upskills.

Ngāupoko Tapoki is a program participant and Delegat employee who has said her whole team is grateful for the program.

"Thank you to your team – I used to take a loan out every time I go back home. This was the first time I went back home without getting a loan, I actually saved up for it and planned ahead. I now have dreams and goals and know how to save," said Tapoki.

The awards are run by Diversity Works NZ and are in their 25th year.
