For the first time in 25 years, Barilla Pasta is making a change to its classic Blue Box packaging. The company is removing the plastic window and making the packaging entirely from virgin fibre cardboard to ensure it is 100 percent recyclable. The company also has targets to remove plastic from its entire range globally by 2030.
“A significant part of Barilla’s commitment to a more sustainable world is the packaging we use for our products. We know that for years consumers have loved seeing our iconic Blue Box pasta on the shelf with the plastic window, but it is our responsibility as a global brand to take a step forward for the environment, reducing this unnecessary plastic waste,” said Mette Jorgensen, Australia Brand Manager.
Barilla was one of the first food brands to use a cardboard box for its pasta packaging in the 1950s.
“Consumers know our familiar Blue Box range means quality, perfectly al dente pasta every time. With our new plastic-free packaging, we are taking a significant step forward in our sustainability journey and making it easy for our consumers to reduce their impact on the environment too.”
