UK | The whole world has gone absolutely nuts for pistachio.
In March 2025, Waitrose was one of the first stockists of the Lindt Dubai Style Chocolate Bar, which was in such high demand that the retailer had to enforce a limit of two bars per customer.
Customers' appetite for pistachios showed no sign of slowing down, with searches for ‘pistachio’ over 500 percent year on year. With the market flooded with variations of ‘Dubai style’ chocolate bars, Waitrose has launched a twist on the hottest chocolate bar on the market.
Waitrose's first own-label pistachio chocolate bar, the No.1 White Chocolate & Pistachio Nuts with Sea Salt bar, differs from others. Customers will find that as soon as they open it, Waitrose has added pistachio paste to the white chocolate, making it a pistachio green colour. The bar is also laced with chopped pistachios for a more authentic pistachio flavour and delicious crunch, with no katif pastry in sight.
“We sold almost four times as many No.1 Cracking Pistachio Easter eggs this year as we did in 2024, selling out both years. So it is obvious customers are loving that sweet, salty, pistachio flavour. We’ve taken the flavours of the white chocolate, pistachio and, more importantly, its distinct colour and turned it into a bar for customers to enjoy all year round,” said Sarah Breadmore, Confectionery Product Developer at Waitrose.
“It’s totally different from the Dubai-style chocolate bars we keep seeing pop up in the market - dare I say, it’s better. We can’t wait to see the reaction from customers; I know they won’t be disappointed.”
This came after the sell-out success of the No.1 Cracking Pistachio Easter Egg, which customers loved for its bright green appearance and combination of white chocolate and pistachio.
Customers can also shop a No.1 Special Edition Chocolate Box, which will include chocolate based on the Easter egg and some other seasonal flavours, including Madagascan Vanilla, Valencia Orange, and Scottish Raspberry.
