The 100% New Zealand owned and operated brand, Altura Coffee, is dedicated to providing consumers with the perfect blend of coffee.

What is your company background, how did you start the business?

Chris White trained as a coffee roaster for Robert Harris in 1980 and worked his way up the ranks. When Robert Harris was bought by Cerebos Greggs in 1990, Chris decided to set up his own boutique coffee roasting company, 100% committed to serving New Zealand’s hospitality sector – and he created Altura Coffee. This was the start of Chris’ inclination to challenge convention in the name of the perfect cup of coffee. Chris was striving to produce coffee that achieved a high level of consistency without smothering the unique characteristics offered by each single-origin in every blend.

From there, Chris opened Altura’s purpose-built roastery and café. He wanted it to be unique, so he put the coffee roaster on display right at the heart of the café since customers love to watch Altura coffee roasters at work. With fresh, high-quality coffee, you really can’t go wrong with Altura.

What is the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?

We have four premium blends that are available all year round. In these blends, we use the finest beans from the world’s best-growing regions which have been skillfully blended to produce the distinctive blends; Altitude, Supreme, Eclipse and Organic. Our award-winning coffee blends are well-known for their balance and smooth, delicious profiles. All coffee is available in whole beans, plunger, expresso and filter ground, and selected blends are available in Nespresso-compatible coffee pods.

As well as our gourmet coffee, we also have a vast range of quality coffee products for at-home coffee enthusiasts. This ranges from soft brew up to full expresso machinery.

For those wanting an interactive experience, we offer coffee courses which run out of our Albany HQ. These are designed to release that inner coffee geek, to help make sure you are 100% up to play with how to best use your in-home machinery or just to better your understanding of bean to cup. We have a course to suit anyone’s level, beginner to expert.

Has there been any recent company news?

Our Altura Flagship Café is going into full renovation mode in December and will be re-opening in 2020 in style. Modernizing our internal design to incorporate the coffee industry must-haves; the latest technology paced onto a new 4-metre-long barista station, Nitro brew bar and speciality coffee station. It is something you won’t want to miss.

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

We are focused on Nationwide growth within the coffee industry. Apart from Wholesale Coffee supply to cafes, we are always on the lookout for stockists of our at-home product range. We want to be able to provide that quality in-home café experience to as many New Zealanders as we possibly can.
