France has announced that the country plans to introduce a penalty system that will see an extra cost added to products that use non-recyclable packaging. The announcement comes after France pledged to only be using recyclable plastic by 2025.
The new scheme will see goods that are packaged in non-recyclable plastic increase in cost by 10 percent while products packaged in recyclable packaging could cost up to 10 percent less. The government also plans to implement added taxes to the burying of garbage in landfill as well as plans to decrease fees associated with recycling operations.
This is just one of the announcements the French government plans to make in the coming years which will also see the introduction of a container deposit scheme. According to magazine 60 Million Consumers France currently recycles around 25 percent of its plastic waste.
