LOW-SUGAR, HIGH-PROTEIN CHOCOLATE

Mars Wrigley Confectionary has announced it will be launching a low-sugar, high-protein version of its popular Mars and Snickers bars. The new variations will be available early next year. The Mars’ More Protein’ bar will contain 40 percent less sugar than the original, with 17.5g per bar and Snickers ‘More Protein’ will contain 30 percent less, with 14.1g of sugar per bar. Both bars will contain 10g of protein. The company has plans to release a low-calorie range in 2019, the bars of this variety will contain less than 100kcal.

Mars will also provide customers with the opportunity to enjoy Mars, Snickers, Twix, Milky Way and other chocolate bars in smaller portion sizes in future.

“We’re really excited by what we call the portfolio of the future. There is an appetite for novelty, for innovation, new tastes and products, which is higher than in the past. There’s a lot of talk about disruption in the market, and I think we have a role to play in this by bringing in new brands and new disruption ourselves,” said UK general manager, David Manzini.

“I do believe we have a role and responsibility to play, which is why we’re bringing out this proposition and why we’re going to continue working on the reformulation of our products by reducing the quantity of sugar.”
