Mondelēz International Inc. has announced that by 2025, all of its packagings will be recyclable. The initiative is part of several steps the company has laid out to reduce its environmental impact. Within the next seven years, the company has stated consumers will be provided with recycling information about each of its products.
“As the global snacking leader, we’re committing to using sustainably-sourced materials and recyclable packaging as part of our active contribution to reduce packaging waste and establish a circular economy for packaging. Plastic waste and its impact on the planet is a broad, systemic issue that our consumers care deeply about, and which requires a holistic response. Together with partners from across the industry, as well as public and private entities, we can help to develop practical solutions that result in a positive environmental impact,” said Robin Hargrove, executive vice-president, Mondelēz.
As part of the company’s zero-net waste packaging vision, Mondelēz has recently laid out the stages of its plan, which include committing to having all paper-based packaging sustainably sourced by 2020, eliminating 65 million kilograms of packaging worldwide by 2020 and providing customers with recycling information for the recycling or re-use of packages by 2025.
The company’s objective is to empower consumers to “snack right by offering the right snack, at the right time, in the right way.”
“This includes ensuring that the company’s products are made with ingredients that are sustainably sourced, produced and delivered, with positive impact along the supply chain,” said Mondelēz.
