In the wake of the pandemic, there has been a boom of grocery delivery start-ups; however, emerging online grocer Fresh Street is entering the scene with a unique pickup-only approach.

Based in Chicago, Fresh Street has unveiled its first click-and-collect location at 6191 N. Lincoln Ave. The e-grocery platform can be accessed via its mobile app or online website and offers free pickup within 30 minutes of orders being placed.

According to Mike Sayles, CEO of Fresh Street, he and his family have experienced many inconveniences and problems with the current online grocery options. This inspired them to start identifying the current issues with the online systems to create an improved experience for online shoppers.

Unlike supermarkets, where customers are constantly plucking items off the shelves, Fresh Street’s platform reflects real-time inventory and guarantees shoppers will receive the grocery items in their baskets. There are also no hidden or extra fees, making it much more affordable for the typical consumer.

Fresh Street is currently offering new customers ten dollars off their first order if they spend more than US$20. Shoppers can also earn 1 percent cash back on every purchase and rewards that can be redeemed at checkout.

Sayles explained that Fresh Street’s selection, operating model, and online platform enable its customers to avoid making an additional in-person trip to the grocery store to get the products they want.

The grocer not only offers a convenient pickup experience but also an optimised online grocery shopping experience.

Last year, October Fresh Street reported raising four million dollars in seed funding from private investors. It invested in upgrading its facility and platforms and hiring exceptional staff from Google, Amazon, Aldi, Walmart, Kraft-Heinz, and Uber.

The company plans to expand to additional markets and open more stores in the future.
